For once, January feels like it’s been passing at a normal pace. Not fast by any means, but as you’d expect a month to pan out. I’ve been quite selfish this month - I’ve spent a lot of time working from the sofa, or going to bed early to voicenote my friends and laugh at TikTok. I haven’t set any unrealistic goals or made extravagant plans, I’m in hibernation mode until I thaw out a little bit.
Five Things I Want.
On my wishlist...
This tulip wallpaper for our bedroom! I was going to do a blue room but I saw this cute design and thought… that’s the one. I can’t decide if we should paint the woodwork red (or green?) to match or just go with a nice creamy white.
This Soulfood hair mask*. I’m on a mission to have healthy hair at the moment, and this mask sounds like it would solve a lot of my problems. I have been scalp oiling and putting on a hair mask for a few hours once a week and I can already feel a difference! Here’s my routine here.
These Seventy+Mochi rust jeans*, they look so fun! I know they’d work with a good chunk of my wardrobe too. I can picture them with a loose white blouse and a little denim waistcoat, maybe a pair of ballet flats or loafers too.
I’m in need of a pair of tan loafers - something I can wear everyday and feel good in. I love this Sezane pair* but they might be a bit low for what I’m after. I’ve been spending more time choosing my ‘elevated basics’ so I can feel good when I throw on an outfit for our daily walk to the beach or to grab coffee. It’s made the biggest difference to my wardrobe.
I’m still thinking about this Damson Madder Quilted Floral Jacket* which I absolutely don’t need but know I’ll wear to death. I love pieces like this because you can be wearing your comfies underneath and still look put together. So good for pram walks or days you really can’t be bothered!
Five Things On My Mind
Whats new with me...
I’m determined to start some home projects next month, I keep shelving things because I want to try and do a room at a time but I can’t seem to decide which one to start with! I also need to find a roster of good tradesmen down here which is a task in itself. I think once I’ve got one project out of the way, it’ll feel much easier… but I just need to start! I finally chose wallpaper and paint for Dahlia’s room and I’ve been collecting shelves and other bits for the makeover so we’re almost there. Although the other day I went to tidy up the fireplace in her room and realised I’m going to have to get someone in to brick it up better, and then I thought I should get some new tiles for it too. Basically, it’s already grown arms and legs which is so typical of a reno project!
We’ve been going through it with teething (and sleep) this month, it feels like one whole month of getting nothing done. She’s never really been phased by teething but the molars have hit us hard. Usually I just lean in to it; after all, it’s not going to be like this forever, but I keep looking around and thinking how much I have to do - mainly work bits I’ve fallen behind with - and I definitely feel a bit tense about it. Hopefully I’ll be able to get through some tasks without a toddler clinging to me soon - sending love and solidarity to anyone else going through it!
I’m starting to plan spring/summer content from my drinks brand Solay at the moment and it’s so fun to think about what the next couple of months will bring. I hope to collab with a designer on some postcards to include with send outs, sponsor some fun events and do a summer photo shoot with a photographer I love. Fingers crossed I can make it all happen!
I’ve been collecting second hand frames to upcycle lately, and I’m hoping to get some fun art to go with them. I’m trying to find lesser known artists, I love Rosie Harbottle and Blakely Made for lovely art, their work is so beautiful.
The weather has been so good lately, it makes me feel so excited for spring. I keep looking out at the garden thinking about all the picnics and dinners we’ll have out on the patio soon. The clocks go forward in two months, and it always feels like we get an extra day tacked on in the evenings once the days get longer. If you, too, feel like you’re getting nothing done right now, just remember that with summer comes more hours of daylight for tasks, walks, socialising etc. We can do this!
Five Things From Me.
Updates from other platforms…
1. This look at my weekly maintenance schedule. This is how I manage my days so I can stay on top of various tasks. I love having the week loosely mapped out for myself, it means less thinking and more doing for me.
2. One of my most used wellness products - I swear by this stuff!
3. I shared my top purchases of 2023 over on the blog, it was fun to map this out and see what I really found useful throughout the last year.
4. This ‘pram walk’ outfit is one of my favourites!
5. I shared my goals for 2024 over on my blog too - a good one to read if you need some inspo.
Five Things To Share.
A quick rundown...
Buying: Aldi almond butter. I have it on slices of apples with cinnamon, on toast with banana, as heaped dollops on porridge. It upgrades every meal!
Reading: Does ‘Dear Zoo’ count? I jest. I’ve been getting stuck in to Hello Beautiful* again recently, I’m finally in the ‘don’t want to put this down’ stage - and I have Dolly’s new book Good Material* to read next too.
Listening: The new Noah Kahan song ft. Sam Fender. On repeat.
Loving: An early night.
Recommending: The M&S thermals*, so cosy as a base layer!
Watching: I recently watched Foe on Prime and loved it. Saoirse is my favourite actress, I adore everything she is in. Once I finished this film, I thought about it for days after and I’m thinking about rewatching just to take it all in. I think I might buy the book* instead though.
What’s new with you all this month?
