We’re in the planning stages of our bathroom renovation at the moment, so of course I’m spending a lot of time working on moodboards, pinning inspiration and getting samples delivered.
I really want this room to be calming, timeless and durable… and obviously, very chic. I’m not sure how long we’ll live in this house but I hope the room grows with us, and in a few years when we’re out of the splashy, chaotic toddler bath era, it’ll have held up well.
Vision #1
This was initially how the bathroom would look in my head, I had planned to use sage square tiles in one of our previous bathrooms but decided to go for pink instead. I think it’s a good sign that I’m still a fan of the cool green tiles even now, five years later.
You may remember our checkerboard bathroom from our last flat, we only were in this place for under a year but I still adored this bathroom when we left. Even now, I think I’ll pinch elements of this design because I think it ticks a lot of boxes for me (practical, timeless, easy to keep clean!).
That being said, I do think I’ve done the whole green bathroom thing, so perhaps something different should be considered? I know I’ll definitely go for striped square tiles in the shower, as well as marble mosaic tiles for the floor. I find marble flooring in a bathroom a great option for hiding dirt, and I also think it just looks so classic and sleek. I also think I might take a risk and use wallpaper, probably for the top half of the room, with tiles on the lower half. I want it to have personality and wallpaper is a great way of adding detail.
Vision #2
This version of the space is still coming to life, but I think it could be really fun and unique. I love the idea of using striped wallpaper and adding in warm red marble for the vanity and bath surround.
I think if I were to opt for this cooler toned room, I would need terracotta tiles, or at least something a little warmer than marble - I’m aiming to get some samples this week to see how it would look, as the marble itself might be enough. I love the globe lights either side of the mirror too, I saw this in a bathroom we stayed in last year and it looked beautiful!
Things That I’d Love To Incorporate:
Mix and match hardware. We’ve always had brass details in our bathroom - from the mirror to the taps and showerhead. With our next remodel, I hope to have more chrome fittings alongside some gold pieces.
Dimmable lights. I always want to have an evening soak with some mood lighting, but can never be bothered lighting a bunch of candles. Ideally in our next room, we’ll have the option to tone down our bright bathroom lights.
A statement mirror. I love this Hastshilp rattan piece, and I know whatever vision I choose, I’ll find a way to incorporate this beautiful find.
A marble bath surround. My plan is to move the bath to under the window, and have a piece of marble cut for the top - as seen in the images above. I love how clean this looks, and I think boxing in the bath and having panelling or tiles on the front is a great, durable option.
Once I have some samples, I’ll choose what works and maybe put it to a vote somehow. I’d love to hear what you think of the picks above - I think the green moodboard looks better, but the blue vision could be more fun in the end.
